Obituary for Allan John Kellis

Scarborough – Allan John Kellis, Holy Donut Co-Founder, 68, died on Monday, October 23, 2017.

Allan was born on January 30, 1949, in Hartford, CT, the son of Stanley S. and Helen D. (Potaski) Kellis (Kobusiewski). He grew up in Wethersfield, CT and after graduating from high school in 1967, he set off for St Francis College in Biddeford Pool Maine and stayed in Maine after graduation. He met his wife Cynthia Scholar and started his life in Portland Maine. Always the entrepreneur, he had a few businesses over the years including, Village TV, Cynthia/Allan Photographers and most proudly, The Holy Donut. His daughter, Leigh started the business in 2011 and when it became too much for her to do alone, her dad jumped in with great enthusiasm and interest. He was happy and proud to see the business grow to 3 stores and eighty employees in just 6 short years and become a true “family” business.

He was so proud of his Polish heritage. Both his parents were 100% Polish and he relished the food, traditions and heart of the Polish people. He loved to spend time with his family both here and in Southampton LI , NY where his Grandparents settled after immigrating from Poland and much of his polish family still lives.

Allan had passion for life. Always the first on the dance floor; people were drawn to his happy and easy going personality, quick wit and intelligence. He was grateful for the little things. He loved a cold beer, a ride in his convertible on a sunny day, a grilled hot dog on the beach, a good fried clam. His smile and laugh will be greatly missed.

Allan was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Stanley Kellis.

Allan is survived by his wife, Cynthia . Daughter and son-in- law Elizabeth and Jeffrey Buckwalter. Daughter Leigh Kellis . Grandchildren: Riley, Griffin, and Kady Buckwalter and Avery Peacock. Brother Stanley Kellis and Sister Nancy Kellis. Many beloved cousins (His Polish Posse) and all his nieces and nephews.
