Obituary for Bernice Theriault

Scarborough – Bernice Theriault (Sturgeon) passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018, at her home, where she wanted to be, surrounded by her family. She had struggled with various illnesses for many years and, most recently, in January of 2018 was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Bernice was born and raised in St. John, Maine and was the daughter of Herbie and Helen Sturgeon. She later moved to Caribou where she met and married her loving husband of 37 years, Patrick L. Theriault, who predeceased her on September 26, 1998. They relocated to Portland, Maine and eventually settled in Scarborough where they raised their four children, and she resided for the last 50 years.

She is predeceased by both parents, 5 brothers (Bee, Leo, Maynard, Dave and Alphonse Gagne, and 3 sisters (Annie and Claire Gagne and Joanne Carnahan) and is survived by her four children, Helen Desjardin of Yarmouth, Patrick Theriault and wife Mary Ellen of Wells, Tammy Brown and husband Terry of Scarborough, and David Theriault; two brothers, Douglas Gagne of South Portland, and Donald Sturgeon of Scarborough; seven grandchildren, Olivia, Audrey, Samantha, Tanner, Taylor, Leah and Cruz as well as many nieces and nephews.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren as a hard working woman with purpose, strength and a determination to live; all qualities that they admired her for.

There will be a private graveside service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 2014 Broadway, South Portland.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Southern Maine Hospice, 180 US Route 1 Ste. 1, Scarborough, Maine 04074
