Obituary for Diana Carol Flint

South Portland- Diana C. Flint, 70, of George Street, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Maine Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Diana was born in Portland on December 19, 1946 she was the daughter of John and Mary (Ferrar) Profenno. She attended local schools and graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in the class of 1964. She furthered her studies in business administration, earning her associates degree.

On June 2, 1973 she married Samuel C. Flint.

At a young age, Diana began working at A.H. Benoit, National Hearing Aid, F.P. & C.H. Murray for more than sixteen years, and currently at R.C. Moore Trucking Company for more than ten years. Diana worked as office manager and assistant to the Quarter Master at the South Portland VFW Post #832 in South Portland for more than thirty years. Her commitment to the post and to the veteran members was unwavering. She was dedicated to keeping the Post an active and fun place for veterans and their families to come. Organizing holiday dinner dances, cookouts, entertainment for members, parties celebrating birthdays, fundraising events for the community just to name a few. She was instrumental in the success of the Wednesday night dinners. She served in the role of function coordinator, bar manager, and President of the Ladies Auxiliary. Her dedication and commitment of time, energy, and money was unmatched, she truly loved her Post Home and worked tirelessly to keep it going in a time when veterans organizations were being forced to shut down.

Diana was longtime member of the Portland Eagles Club and the Scarborough American Legion Post #0076.

When not working Diana loved crafting and decorating. She was and excellent cook and loved organizing family gatherings. Her greatest love was the time she spent surrounded by her family. She will long be remembered for her giving spirit, kindness, laughter and tireless efforts to help those less fortunate than her. She always had a special place in her heart for children.

Diana was predeceased by her father, John Profenno in 2014. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Samuel C. Flint of South Portland; a daughter, and the love of her life, Laurie Lynn Cote of South Portland; her mother, Mary Profenno of South Portland; siblings, Joseph and wife Brenda Hachey of AL, Kathy and husband Harold Young of Cape Elizabeth, Sherry and husband Tom Flemming of OH, Theresa Profenno of NH, Steven Hachey of Gorham, Nancy and husband Larry Thompson of New Gloucester, Jamie Profenno of Standish, and John and wife Mary Profenno of South Portland; many nieces and nephews.

A visitation and celebration of Diana’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway.
