Obituary for Dorothy Hackett Stack

Cape Elizabeth - Dorothy Hackett Stack passed away on June 24, 2018, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a short illness.

Dorothy was born in Fitchburg, MA on August 17, 1955, the third child of John C. and Pauline G. (Norwood) Hackett. She attended St. Bernard’s Grammar School and graduated from St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School in 1973. Dorothy studied Accounting at North Adams State College and graduated in 1976. She later received her MBA from St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN.

After graduation Dorothy worked as an accountant at a number of businesses in Fitchburg, Boston, and briefly in Munich, Germany. She became a United States Postal Inspector in 1981 and worked in St. Paul, MN and New York City. Dorothy met her husband Kevin at work, and they were married in 1987. After their marriage they resided in Red Bank, NJ. Dorothy stopped working after the birth of their first child. The family moved to Cape Elizabeth, ME in 1994. Dorothy later worked as a bookkeeper for the Catholic churches in Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, South Portland, and Portland.

Dorothy was a wonderful mother and loved being involved in her children’s activities. She volunteered at Cape Elizabeth Schools, was a Girl Scout Leader, taught religious education at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, and was willing to help whenever she was needed. She enjoyed playing tennis, cooking and baking, scrabble games, and spending time with her friends and family. Dorothy was a voracious reader, often reading multiple books at once.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Kevin; her children, Clare, Grace, and Timothy; her sisters, Kathleen Brookhart and Mary Tavolieri; and many extended family members.
