Obituary for Emma Elizabeth Daley

Yarmouth – Emma Elizabeth Daley, 13, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018.

Emma Elizabeth Daley was brought into this world on November 5, 2004. The fun loving, spunky, and sweet little girl would soon make it her life mission to enrich the lives of all who knew her. A task she accomplished every single day of her short life.

Emma made the world a brighter place by turning every day into “Hug Day”. Hug Day quickly became known as one of the many “Emma-ism’s” throughout Emma’s family and friends. There didn’t have to be a reason for a hug other than to embrace, hold, and express your love for one another.

It all started when Emma was a little girl: while Danyelle was at work, Emma was one of the luckiest girls in the world because she got to spend every day with her Nana Arlene and Poppy John. Together, Emma and Nana sought out to make every day about fun, laughter, love, and of course, baking! They shared a close bond that was nurtured by an adoration for one another and the love that only a granddaughter and Nana could know.

A naturally bubbly, happy, and loving girl, Emma could not be stopped from dancing. Dancing and Emma go hand in hand. Her family recalls the many days Emma would come home from school, put her headphones in and start shaking the house with her dance moves. Growing up in a house where everyone teased, she didn’t care if her family referred to her as a ‘bull in a china shop’ – she would tease them right back in only the way Emma could.

From a young age, Emma’s love for family was second to none, and something she held in high regard in the short 13 years she was with us.

Emma’s capacity for love, togetherness, and compassion was expressed in many ways, all of which came second-nature to her. Emma was always there for others, especially for her best friend and brother, Sam. Whether they were goofing around, wrestling, or sitting on the couch watching Netflix together, their bond of brother and sister was unparalleled. Emma’s love for others was conveyed by baking cookies and bringing them into school just to brighten her classmates’ and teachers’ day. Emma’s love was shown by the many nights she got out of bed just to run to her Mom and Kevin to tell them that she loved them. Simply put, Emma’s love for others was expressed in every single action of her being, every single day of her life.

Emma is predeceased by her beloved Nana Arlene. She survived by her loving mother, Danyelle Pettie and husband Kevin; best friend and big brother, Sam Daley; Poppy John Pianka; and several extended family members and friends.

Emma’s family invites you to share stories, memories, hugs and the many “Emma-ism’s” on Saturday, February 10 from 2-4PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Celebration of Emma’s life will follow at 4PM in the Chapel.
