Obituary for Patricia A. Deignan

Scarborough- Patricia A. Deignan, 74, of Mulberry Lane, died peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at her home following a courageous fourteen year battle with ovarian cancer. Her loving family was by her side.

Patricia was born in East Rockaway, NY on December 2, 1942 the daughter of Earling L and Rita (Lutz) Andersen. She graduated from East Rockaway High School in the class of 1950. She furthered her education and earned a certificate in cosmetology from the New York School of Cosmetology.

On June 19, 1965 she married Thomas F. Deignan at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in East Rockaway. Together they made their home and raised their family in New York.

Patricia worked for several different salons in the New York area from 1961 to 1984, and served as Religious Education Director at St. Cyril and Methodius, Deer Park, Long Island for two years. After retiring in 2001, Tom and Patti moved to Maine to be closer to family.

In 2004 Patti was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, never one to let herself get down, she worked tirelessly supporting others by volunteering at Turning the Tide Retreat, and serving as a facilitator for Cancer Community Center in South Portland. She served as a buddy to many cancer patients throughout her fourteen year battle, and sponsored many women entering a twelve step program as well. She enjoyed art and traveling. Patti was a woman of integrity, wisdom, kindness, and great strength. Her greatest love by far was her family. Children and grandchildren always came first, she loved being surrounded by them all.

Patricia was predeceased by her father Earling L. Andersen. She is survived by her husband of fifty two years Thomas F. Deignan; her mother, Rita Andersen; a daughter, Rita M. Goffman; a son, Tim and his wife Dionne Deignan; two sisters, Rita Kovar and Roberta Farrell; four grandchildren, Caitlin Goffman, Maggie Deignan, Ali Deignan, and Ryan Goffman and nephew, Tony Kovar Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at 11am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Burial will follow in Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough. To view Patti’s memorial page or to share an online condolence, please visit www.

Those who wish may make contributions to support the continuance of the retreat for women who have a diagnosis of ovarian cancer that Patti participated in for the past five years. At Turning the Tide Retreat, Patti, not only shared her journey with this illness but supported other women with her generous sharing and prayers as well as her wonderful sense of humor.
