Obituary for Richard F. Duell

Old Orchard Beach- With great sorrow, the family of Richard F. Duell (“Dick”) announces that Dick passed away on April 7, 2018, surrounded by his loving family after a short period of declining health. Dick was born on June 12, 1935 in Argyle, New York, the 11th of 13 children born to parents, James F. Duell, Sr. and L. Hazel Wykes Duell.

After graduating from high school in Argyle, Dick moved to Glens Falls, New York where he met and married the love of his life, Frances E. Gordon (“Fran,” also known as “Pokey”). Dick, Fran and their family later moved to Fair Haven, Vermont, where he joined the staff of Merchants Bank of Vermont. Dick worked at the bank for over 35 years and was Branch President of the Fair Haven office until his retirement in 2005. Dick was a hard‐working family man, who was very active in the community and referred to Fair Haven as his “hometown.” Dick could often been seen out in his yard on Scotch Hill tending to his beautiful gardens.

Dick was predeceased by Fran, his beloved wife of 44 years, who passed away in 1999. Not a day went by that Dick did not think about and miss her. He was also predeceased by his parents and nine of his siblings. Dick later moved to Old Orchard Beach, Maine in 2012 to be closer to his daughters.

Dick leaves behind his “girls”: beloved daughters, Connie B. Haley and her husband, Daniel T. Haley, Jr. of Portland, Maine, and Kathy D. Camire and her husband Michael L. Camire of Dayton, Maine; three cherished granddaughters, Danielle F. Haley of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Brooke K. Haley of Brooklyn, New York, and Emily F. Camire of Dayton, Maine. Dick is also survived by his brother, Joseph (Rita) Duell of Florida, sisters, Mary Duell Dutcher and Patricia (Edward) Pratt, both of New York, as well as brothers‐in‐law Bernard (Lelia) Gordon, Terry (Patricia) Gordon, and sister‐in‐law Loretta (Roger) Saheim, all of New York, each of whom Dick considered to be his sibling, step‐grandsons, Nathan (Amy) Camire of Florida, Matthew (Sarah) Camire, of Pennsylvania, and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Dick’s wishes, a private graveside memorial will be held at a future date in Fair Haven, Vermont, where Dick will be laid to rest next to Fran. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, Maine.
