Obituary for Rosalind Joan Mac Vane

St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada – Rosalind Joan Mac Vane, 84, formerly of Portland, died on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at her home.

Rosalind was born in Portland on July 30, 1933, the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Kiley) McAvoy. She grew up in Portland and attended local schools including graduating from Deering High School.

After high school Rosalind met Philip Mac Vane and the two married on Feb. 27, 1954, at Sacred Heart Church in Portland. She worked hard with Philip to raise their children and she was an excellent mother and homemaker. After the kids started school she worked for the telephone company, South Portland Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and as a night nurse for the Baxter School for the Deaf.

Rosalind always kept everything neat and tidy at home and at work. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and in her free time she enjoyed crocheting and camping with the family in Canada. She will be remembered for being generous, caring, and having strong convictions.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years in 2017, Philip Mac Vane; two brothers, Dr. William McAvoy and Philip McAvoy. Rosalind is survived by two sons, Michael Mac Vane and his wife Raymond of St. Steven, New Brunswick, Canada, Gerard “Jerry” Mac Vane and his wife Alice of Leeds; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:45AM on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.
