Obituary for Susan Jeanne Daniels

BUXTON - Susan Jeanne Daniels, 74, died October 20, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Portland, on May 21, 1943, to her father, James Augustine and mother, Eleanor (Carey) Duran, who passed away during Susan's infancy. After her father's remarriage, Susan was lovingly raised and cared for by Mary (Costello) Duran. Susan grew up in Portland, graduated from Saint Patrick's Elementary School and Cathedral High School.

In 1963, she married Robert John Daniels, and together they raised five sons. She worked as a telephone operator for New England Tel & Tel, a receptionist for the Portland Police Department, a travel agent for Northwest Travel, a sales rep at her husband's tile store, Daniels Tile Co., and at her sons' tile store, 5 Brothers' Tile.

Her greatest joys were found in her many grandchildren, especially listening to them sing and spending time with her beloved sister, Maureen. Most recently Susan attended the Latin Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with her entire family. She received her Last Rites before passing.

Susan is predeceased by her husband, Robert John Daniels; sisters, Marilyn Jeffreys and Eleanor Ditmars and brother, Steven Duran.

She is survived by her five sons, Robert J. Jr. and wife Michelle of Standish, Steven M. of Buxton, Peter J. and wife Muny of Buxton, Thomas M. and wife Maria of Buxton, and Jeffrey J. and wife Gina of Buxton; 21 grandchildren, Peter Jr., Sarah, Andrea, Andrew, Jacob, Christopher, Thomas L. and wife Christine, Kaitlyn, Mary Susan, Anna, Max, James, Jeffrey J. Jr., Michael, Francis, Nicholas, Kellianne, Dominic, Xavier, John Robert, and Gerard; great-grandchild, Benedict; sister, Maureen Hemond, of Scarborough; brothers, Jim Duran, of Portland and John Duran, of Casco; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends. Susan was very grateful for all the help and support of her many caregivers throughout her illness.
