Windham- Carmen Brown Vacchiano, 86, passed away after a lengthy illness on February 28, 2016, at Ledgewood Manor. Carmen was born in Brewer on November 28, 1929, the second daughter of nine children, to Linwood and Matilda (Upton) Brown. She attended local schools. On April 19, 1965, she married Agostino (Sam) Vacchiano at St John the Evangelist Church in South Portland. She spent many happy years raising her two children and later on employed at Shaws Supermarket and various restaurants. Some of Carmens favorite things to do for fun were to golf, attend family gatherings, and sing old tunes of the 50s, especially, Let Me Call You Sweetheart. That song summarizes Carmen, a women filled with love for all her family and whose main concern was for their happiness and welfare. Sweetheart describes her perfectly! She will be sorely missed by all. Carmen is predeceased by her husband Sam Vacchiano; three sisters, Marie Brown, Ruth Rodgiers, and Shirley Currie; and two brothers, Charles Brown and Robert Brown. Carmen is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Rosina V. Vacchiano and longtime companion Chris Roy, of South Portland; a son, Steven Brown and wife Donna, of Glendale, Arizona; a sister, Sharon Farrell and husband John, of South Portland; two brothers, Paul Brown and wife Eleanor, of Cape Elizabeth and Grandville Dick Brown and wife Linda, of South Portland. Carmen is also survived by two grandchildren Steven Brown Jr. and wife Amanda, of Tolleson, Arizona, and Erica Brown, of Phoenix, Arizona; a great grandson, Dillon Brown, of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters in law Grace Brown and Ellie Brown; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
