CASCO - Catherine Margaret Malia, 83, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at her residence, after a long illness. Margaret was born in Portland on January 12, 1930, the daughter of Charles Bradford and Catherine (Reardon) Malia. She attended Portland schools and lived in Portland until 2003 when she moved to Casco. For over thirty years, Margaret worked at Mercy Hospital, retiring in 1992. She was a Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics fan. Margaret never married, but was the favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She was a loyal family member and could be counted on for any family event. She was a member of the Harold T. Andrews American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary. As a communicant of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and St Patrick's Catholic Church, she rarely missed a Mass. Margaret was predeceased by her parents; three brothers Charles, Ralph, and Joseph, and a sister, Alice Hewson. She will be greatly missed by her nephews; Charles Malia of Old Orchard Beach, Robert Hewson and his wife Yvonne of Okemos, Michigan, Peter Malia and his wife Joanne, Stephen Malia and his wife Patricia, and Joseph Malia Jr and his wife Sue, all of Portland, Kevin Malia and his wife Anne of Whitinsville, Massachusetts, James Malia and his wife Theresa of Lewiston; and her nieces, Judith Malia and Cynthia Vacca both of Portland, Mary Jane Richardson and her husband Charles of Standish, and Cheryl Doherty and her husband Terry of Crystal Springs, Florida, as well as many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Albina Bryant and her staff at Country Village Assisted Living in Casco for the wonderful care they provided for Margaret the past ten years and to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their support and care the past several months. Visitation will be held 5:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 8:15 am, Friday, at the chapel, followed by a 9:00 am, Mass of Christian burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland.
