Marion Josephine Bergson

YARMOUTH - Marion Josephine Bergson, 93, of Yarmouth, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born on August 17, 1919, in Boston, Massachusetts, the oldest child of William Francis and Josephine Marie Volkes Kearney. She was raised in South Boston. She graduated from the Academy of the Assumption High School in Wellesley Hills, MA in 1936. On June 15, 1940, she married David Emmanuel Bergson at Our Gate of Heaven Church in South Boston. The Bergson's moved to Maine in 1950 and, in 1958, moved to Town Landing Road where they raised their family. Marion was a homemaker, and her top priority was raising her family. She was a wonderful cook, well known for Sunday dinners and delicious desserts, especially her brownies. Marion's favorite times were spent with her family and friends. She delighted in feeding and entertaining everyone she knew and in meeting people of all age groups who hailed from places far and wide. She enjoyed traveling across the US and in parts of Europe. Marion moved to Yarmouth in 1979, and her home became the base for her devoted family. She loved the water and enjoyed years of boating on board the 'Clare Marie' and other family boats. She took pleasure in cruising Casco Bay and the coast of Maine with her family. Marion was a devout Catholic all her life, involved in parish functions at Holy Martyr's in Falmouth and was communicant of Sacred Heart church in Yarmouth. She was pre-deceased by her former husband David, two sisters, Jean Mylett and Joan Schendel; and a brother, William F. Kearney, Jr. Survivors include her daughter Clare Marie of Martinez, GA, and her four sons: David E., Jr. and his wife Terry of Portland; Robert E. and his wife Virginia of Georgetown, MA; Eugene F. and his wife Lisa of South Dartmouth, MA; Stephen B. and his wife Lurana of Cumberland Foreside. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Emily and her husband Todd Libby; and Katherine, Brendan, Margaret, Bridget and Oliver Bergson, as well as two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Ruby Libby. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 19, 2013, at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. ~Prayers will be recited at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, Main Street, Yarmouth. Burial will be in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
