PORTLAND Richard B. Dick Leonard, 85, of Portland, passed away on December 31, 2014 at the Barron Center. Dick was born in Portland on June 21, 1929, the son of the late Matthew and Elizabeth (Graney) Leonard. He graduated from Cheverus High School, Class of 1947. Following High School, Dick graduated from the Portland School of Art, and received his Bachelor Degree from Maine College of Art. A person of considerable artistic ability, Dick used his talents as a commercial artist throughout his life. A most generous man, he donated many hours making signs and other art work to various charity and fraternal organizations. In his working life, Dick managed the The Paint Pot for 25 years before he became the owner and operator of the Paint and Sign Shop which offered portrait drawings and exterior lettering of vehicle and billboards. Dick was a lifetime communicant of St. Patricks Church. After a long courtship, Dick married the love of his life, Patricia (OReilly) Clark. Theirs was a wonderful union for 28 years until Pat predeceased him in 2005. Dick was a real People Person who had a wonderful sense of humor and exhibited his Irish Heritage with his fantastic ability for story and joke telling. Dick is survived by his brother, John M. Leonard of NJ; step-children, Virginia Sellick of Readfield, ME, Howard Clark, Jr. of FL, and Gary Clark of Fryberg. Also survived by 10 step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 8:30AM until 9:15AM in the Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 9:15AM followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave. Portland.
